We talked about the hormonal cycle in the bears, in which their mating and gorging cycles are separated. We reviewed the information from the NOVA episode about the fact that when bears hibernate, they don't eat, drink, pee, or poop, that their heart rate goes down to 10 beats per minute while they sleep, and that scientists are trying to figure out if humans do the same. We talked about the fact that all the fat the bears gain while they gorge themselves during Fat Bear Week is fuel for their bodies for 3 months, and that as a result, the bear cannot be too fat unless it has trouble hunting.
